Music and Egyptian cult: another aspect to communicate with the gods

Abstract

Το θέμα της παρούσας εργασίας είναι η διερεύνηση της μουσικής στα συγκείμενα των αιγυπτιακών θρησκευτικών και λατρευτικών πρακτικών, τον ρόλο των μουσικών και των καθηκόντων τους να υπηρετούν τους θεούς με την μουσική τέχνη. Τέλος, η εργασία εστιάζει στην ανάλυση της σημασίας της μουσικής και των μουσικών οργάνων στην λατρεία σημαντικών θεοτήτων του αιγυπτιακού πανθέου: κυρίως της Αθώρ (και κατά συνέπεια του γιού της του Ίχυ, του παίκτη του σείστρου) και στην ανάλυση του ρόλου της μουσικής στις αθωρικές τελετουργίες και πρακτικές και ως σύμβολα και ως τέχνη.

The purpose of this thesis is to explore music in ancient Egyptian religious and worshipping context, the role of the musicians in the duties of serving the gods via music. Lastly the research focusεσ into analyzing the importance of music and musical instruments in the cult of important deities of the Egyptian pantheon; mainly Hathor (and thus her son Ihy, the seistrum player) and it will analyze further the role of music in hathoric rituals and worshipping practices both as a symbol as an art.
